The Heil PR-22: Exceptional Audio Quality with the FT-710

As a dedicated ham radio enthusiast, I’ve experimented with a range of microphones with my Yaesu FT-710 and FT-991a, but the PR-22 Heil Ham Radio Microphone has quickly become my go-to choice. Paired with a generic mixer, a Heil FS-3 Foot Pedal, and the Heil CC1-XLR-YM adapter, this microphone consistently delivers outstanding performance.

One of the standout features of the Heil PR-22 is its impressive frequency response, ranging from 50 Hz to 18 kHz. This broad range ensures that the mic captures the full sound spectrum, from deep bass to crisp highs, providing a rich and natural audio output. Whether you’re broadcasting, recording, or using it in live settings, the Heil PR-22 captures every nuance of your voice.

What sets this microphone apart is the unsolicited feedback I receive from others. Time and again, I’ve been complimented on the clarity and quality of my audio. These reports are a testament to the PR-22’s ability to deliver professional-grade sound without the need for extensive post-processing or adjustment.

The combination of the Heil PR-22 with my setup not only enhances my audio but also adds a level of reliability that is important for any serious audio work. Whether you’re an amateur radio operator, broadcaster, podcaster, or someone who values audio quality, the Heil PR-22 is a microphone that won’t disappoint.

  1. Are you using a preamp with this setup? What are the radio settings for the T-710 you found sound best?

    1. I am not using a pre-amp. I wrote another blurb about the audio settings here: https://w0wc.com/yaesu-ft-710-parametric-eq-settings-explained/. You will have to tailor it to your voice. I highly recomment using a web SDR to listen to yourself.

      Cheers,

      Chris
